Government Incentives & Funding
Commercial EV charger incentives in Canada for 2026 include federal tax incentives (accelerated capital cost allowance) and provincial rebates, such as the EV Charger Incentive Program which funds 50–75% of costs up to $100,000. Businesses can also benefit from 30% federal tax credits on hardware/installation (until June 30, 2026) in certain areas, particularly in Ontario where additional grants are available.
Commercial Programs
This is a $7 million program with up to $100,000 in rebates available per applicant to make EV charging more affordable across public spaces, on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces, and for light-duty vehicle fleets, with priority given to projects in Ontario.
The program will reimburse up to 50% of the total eligible project costs, which include EV chargers (20kW and above only), licenses and permits, salaries and benefits related to implementing the project, rental or leasing costs, professional services such as engineering, construction, and installation, and more.
Federal Investment Tax Credit ( up to 30% ITC credit)
The Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit offers a 30% refundable tax credit on capital investments in wind, solar, and energy-storage technologies. Available from March 28, 2023, to 2034, the credit aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy projects across Canada. This refundable tax credit also aims to encourage more people to transition to net-zero energy and will spur economic growth by making it more attractive to invest in Canadian businesses.
This incentive drastically reduces the upfront costs of adopting Green energy, enabling companies to offset their tax liability as they transition to renewable energy. With a 10-year limit to use these credits, the CTITC makes solar energy more financially attractive.
Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance (ACCA)
The Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance (ACCA) allows businesses to deduct 50% of their equipment costs each year on a declining balance basis, with the option for a 100% first-year deduction if installed before 2028. This accelerated write-off provides a faster return on investment by allowing substantial tax savings, making EV projects financially viable and appealing for Canadian businesses aiming to reduce energy costs and enhance sustainability.
